Mary McDonald is the LA based, award winning designer, whom you may recognize from the hit reality series “Million Dollar Decorators”. With her flair for design, her exuberant style and outspoken nature, Mary was a TV natural and according to some sources, the inspiration for the character Karen on the long running TV series Will and Grace.
It was thanks to Mary’s designs that I developed a taste for Hollywood regency interiors and daring use of color and geometry and elements of Chinoiserie. She manages to incorporate harmony and balance in her interiors. Although perhaps not always very practical in a household filled with children, toys and general family clutter, her aesthetic is something I can aspire to.
Mary McDonald graduated from the Parsons School of Design in New York City followed by a stint as a milliner before turning her attention to interior decoration. Her repertoire includes the refurbishment of Buster Keaton’s villa as well as designing for celebrities and members of Fortune 500. She is repeatedly ranked among America’s top designers.
