GETTING HAMMERED

The pursuit of gold is the stuff of lore. Remember the legend of El Dorado? Gold illuminates and enhances and continues to hold us all in thrall. However, when overused or utilized in the wrong context, it can look garish and tacky. The trick is the right doses, and were you to go whole hog, the combination is key.

I am a great lover of gold. Silver, mwah, never did much for me. But gold. Ah, glistening gold. That had and still has me salivating. Hammered gold holds particular charm for me. It’s that playful texture that really triggers me. I love it in the form of jewelry, but also as a tool in home decor. It’s no wonder, looking around my living room. There’s the gold antique mirror over the fireplace, the gold sunburst mirror, my gold-painted end-table. I have to make a concerted effort not to overdo things, but oh, how I would love a pair of giant hammered gold doors to close behind me at night!
