Last week, while I was posting our story on celebrities and their pooches, I came across the stunning Chateau de Wideville, the home of couturier Valentino Garavani near Paris. This gorgeous 17th century abode, built by Louis XIII’s finance minister and once the home of one of Louis XIV’s mistresses, was purchased by Valentino in 1995 and redecorated by Henri Samuel, although not without the involvement of the designer, who chose a Chinoiserie-inspired interior for the famous cylindrical outbuilding, the pigeonnier. Every summer, Valentino hosts a gala party at this picturesque home, with such fashion luminaries as Carine Roitfeld, Stella Tennant and Daphne Guiness attending. This year, Valentino had the (dubious) honor of hosting a lunch to celebrate the wedding of reality star Kim Kardashian to rapper Kanye West. I’ll bet Louis XIV would turn over in his grave, but the fact is that the beautiful property was once more a hot topic. This time overrun by Kardashian’s decked out in Valentino, the chateau remains a marvel. To read the Architectural Digest interview with Valentino at Chateau de Wideville, please click here.
