The annual Met Gala, held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, is arguably the most glamorous, talked-about and prestigious event on the social calendar. If Anna Wintour thinks you’re relevant enough, you’re in. It’s where Hollywood, Park Avenue and Seventh Avenue come together and pull out all the stops. It must be where the phrase ‘dressed to impress’ is most applicable. Although, this year – dedicated to couturier Charles James – some of the celebrities appeared not to have received that memo. There were some downright weird outfits gracing the red carpeted stairs to the museum’s entrance. Lupita Nyong’o seems to have made her first ever fashion faux-pas in her beaded Prada number, and don’t get me started on the gorgeous Kate Upton who looked a ‘jee haw’ away from a saloon lady in an old spaghetti Western in her black Dolce & Gabbana. Thankfully, there were some suitably glamorous outfits to help make up for the lesser ones. I particularly loved fashionista Giovanna Battaglia’s gown, and shoe designer Tabitha Simmons’ ethereal Dolce & Gabbana creation. I also liked the clean lines of Victoria Beckham’s and Georgia May Jagger’s dresses. Below, a selection of the good, the bad, and the in-between.
